About DCS

Founded in 1974 as the Central Deaf Association, Deaf Community Services of San Diego, Inc. is the only nonprofit agency in San Diego that serves deaf, hard-of-hearing, and late-deafened children and adults. Our clients include seniors with hearing loss, individuals who use cochlear implants or hearing aids, deaf infants and children whose parents are seeking advice and guidance, and members of the Deaf community whose primary language is American Sign Language (ASL). We also welcome educators, professionals, and service providers looking for information and support.

Our skilled and knowledgeable staff works with clients one-on-one to overcome communication barriers, improve functioning and life skills, and educate the public. The global impact of deafness on an individual is profound and often misunderstood. DCS offers a wide menu of services specially designed to match clients’ needs in their preferred language, whether spoken English, Spanish, or ASL.

Many of our staff are Deaf and understand first-hand the difficulties and challenges that clients face in society. All employees are trained to treat everyone who enters our doors with dignity and respect.
