Deaf Community Services of San Diego, Inc - Volunteer Position Description

Title/Position: Front Desk Volunteer

Goal of Position: Work at the desk in the agency’s lobby.

Tasks/responsibilities:

1. Answer voice and video phones.
2. Greet clients with and without appts.
3. Notify member of staff if a client with appt arrives.
4. Check books and videos out of library.
5. Manage distribution of lobby videophone remotes.
6. Other reception and referral tasks as needed.
7. Cover the front desk in case of absence of Information and Referral Specialist.

Qualifications:

1. Be compassionate, friendly, caring, and patient with those that are receiving DCS services
2. Awareness of Deaf Culture and ability to communicate with clients who use American Sign Language in a variety of signing levels and styles.
3. Good organization and time management skills.
4. Familiarity with computer use.
5. Efficient telephone skills and etiquette.

Requirements:

1. Complete a volunteer application
2. Complete confidentiality and policy agreement forms
3. Must be willing to commit to consistent hours and days agreed upon.

Time frame: Length of Commitment: An agreed upon time with a
minimum of 6 months.

Estimated total hours: Between 3 and 8 hours a week as agreed upon

Days/Hours Needed: Monday – Friday
8:30 (or 9:00) – 12:00
1:00 – 5:00
