Hello Parents, Leaders, and Campers!
What an inspiring, memorable week we had this year at Deaf Youth Literacy Camp!! We had 60 campers this year! Camp ran from July 8-14th at Indian Hills Campground, which is in East San Diego. The camp dynamics were unbelievable….We loved witnessing the incredible growth in every camper. Every year, we add new activities and workshops to our DYLCamp Program, so our returning campers are constantly gaining new knowledge and experiences. The campers were not ready to go home!! Check out DYLC’s website to see the photos and videos!
DCS would like to express our gratitude to the Community and Parents for their tremendous, constant support. DYLC fostered a positive developmental impact on the campers that would not have been possible without our Community and the highly qualified leaders who worked hard all week investing in the campers and building their confidence. We cannot wait to start working on DYLC 2019 Program! If you are interested in getting involved with DYLC next year, please contact Nick Roquemore at NRoquemore@dcsofsd.org. We would love to hear your new ideas…..See you next year!! Check out our Photo/Video Gallery links above!
Deaf Youth Literacy Camp is a place for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, ages 8-14 years old, to come together and develop independence skills, make friends, and discover their talents, interests, and values. This is where the beauty of Deaf Culture, the depth of American Sign Language, and the power of written English go hand in hand. It is DYLC’s goal to provide a fun, enriching, learning environment where students can develop self-esteem, independence, and confidence as a Deaf Person. The definition of Literacy is to develop the competence of knowledge in a specified area. At DYLCamp, students increase their knowledge and skills in various areas, which include, but are not limited to; bilingual enrichment, workshops, outdoor activities, arts and crafts, team building, theatrics, play therapy, and fire building/safety. During DYLCamp week, communication is accessed 24/7 with all program leaders whereas Sign Language and Deaf Culture are revered and celebrated. Deaf Youth Literacy Camp is staffed by community leaders with various background skills and experiences in leadership, education, recreation, advocacy, and social services.
DCS is thrilled to be expanding the program to accept more campers this year, but, students from San Diego will have priority until May 1st. Please do not wait until the last minute to sign your child up for our camp! Last year, we received an overwhelming number of applications, especially from those who reside in San Diego County. Camp enrollment is accepted on a first come, first served basis.
Don’t let your child(ren) miss the opportunity to participate in this great camp experience! Please submit your application as soon as possible to reserve your slot.
