Disaster Response Interpreting Training

Time: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM

There is no fee for this course. Lunch is included. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to workshop for check-in.

Course Objective:
This course is specifically designed to train and credential certified Sign Language Interpreters for interpreting during an emergency or disaster response, including but not limited to evacuation shelters and media press conferences, as designated by the California Emergency Management Agency.

Trainers:
Molly Bowen, RID SC:L, NAD V-Master, RID CI & CT and Jennifer Ann Cook

Participant Prerequisites:

  • Valid Certification: CDI; NAD Level 3, 4 or 5; RID CI/CT; NIC Generalist, Advanced or Master Level
  • Minimum of 10 years of community sign language interpreting experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of medical, law enforcement and mental health emergency sign language interpreting experience
  • Willingness to be called during an emergency response/disaster
  • Ability to pass background checks through the Department of Justice
  • Affiliation with one or more DRI Partner Agencies (see application)
