YFS: Volunteer Aide

FAMILY ASL CLASSES

DCS is looking for volunteer(s) for our Family ASL classes on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm-8:00pm.
 
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Volunteer Aides are responsible for providing assistance to the Instructor of the weekly Family ASL classes, as well as, circulating through the classroom to monitor learner progress during activities for families and their children.
 

  • Assists with the instruction of American Sign Language lessons and implementing curriculum
  • Assists the childcare facilitators in creating a safe and positive learning environment for the families’ children
  • Assists Instructor with accommodating families with diverse needs by adapting lesson plans appropriately for various learning styles and levels
  • Motivates reluctant families to improve their ASL skills and communication skills through individual and group sessions
  • Creates an environment conducive for adult learning; maintains a secure classroom environment
  • Helps Instructor with a variety of tasks and needs of the teacher, including assisting in demonstrations (mock role-play, game directions, etc.)
  • Works one-on-one with families when extra attention or learning is needed or requested
  • Displays a high level of effort and commitment
